Electronic Products Design Engineer

Department:
Intaq Engineering
Shift:
Days

POSITION PURPOSE

GM Nameplate manufactures custom membrane switches, touch screens, elastomeric keypads, circuit board assemblies and electronic value added assemblies - advertised as our INTAQ product lines.

The Design Engineer’s primary responsibility is to analyze customer specifications, end-use application and design, then offer manufacturability options and coordinate the creation of a documentation package complete enough for manufacture. This includes defining the design, schematic layout, specifications, approving the proof and obtaining the customer’s approval. This position provides support through the manufacturing processes and over-sees assembly and testing of the first parts. The Design Engineer retains responsibility for the support and maintenance of the product for it’s life. Substantial interaction with internal personnel and customers is required.

Frequently, during the sales effort, the Design Engineer acts as a consultant to our Outside Sales Representatives, New Product Managers (in-house Account Managers) and Process Engineering Technicians in the interpretation of a potential project’s requirements and it’s fit within our manufacturing capabilities. The Design Engineer, in coordination with the New Product Manager, offers design suggestions and alternative technologies while fleshing out incomplete requirements during discussions with the customer. Design Engineer helps to sell GM Nameplate and secure the order.

The Design Engineer helps troubleshoot processes in coordination with, and for, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Control and anywhere else the need presents itself.

R&D projects, DOE, PPAP & APQP involvement, working within ISO system boundaries, testing, data collection, technical writing, limited hands-on assembly and other more general office duties round out the responsibilities of a Design Engineer.

Some travel to trade shows, customer’s facilities and to support GM Nameplate’s sales effort may be required.

While the position requires a depth of knowledge in electronics and mechanical engineering, the day-to-day responsibilities are more directly related to manufacturing process engineering and project management.
