GMN has many years of experience with digital printing. Our digital printing capabilities can be used for a wide of array of products including, brand labels, wine labels, graphic overlays, medical labels and functional labels.

Digitally printing offers many advantages to customers. It is a great option for high volume production or projects that need to have a very quick turnaround. Since the time involved in setting up a screen press is avoided, digital print projects usually have a faster lead time. In addition, printing digital offers many advantages to functional labels, including serializing.

The digitally printing process can also offer significant cost advantages over screen printing. Recently GMN’s San Jose division completed an overlay project for a large technology customer. Thanks to our digital printing process coupled with our innovative screen printing solutions, GMN was able to provide the customer with a cost comparable to prices overseas. Printing with GMN not only provided the customers with a high quality project at a fair price, but also streamlined their supply chain.

As a company that does technical printing, we take our holiday  cards seriously.  Why go simple when we can showcase some of our unique printing capabilities?

Every aspect of the card was produced entirely in house, from design to final assembly. The card features many printing capabilities that can be applied to almost any product or industry. Many of the same design and printing features found on GMN produced overlays, placards and labels can be found on the Christmas card.

The front of the card displays a bright and glimmering snowy village printed on polyester. The village was digitally printed on our HP Indigo Press. Various parts of the card were printed opaque – the buildings and snow, while the rest was printed transparent. Next, specialized UV texture was screen printed on the opaque details of the card. The texture helps the buildings and snow stand out from the transparent majority of the card.

One festive touch to this year’s Christmas card is the glitter detail. PVC glitter film was adhered to the back of the card, allowing the glitter to shine through the transparent objects in the card, brightening the sky and shining through the buildings’ windows.

Lastly, the card itself was printed on cardstock using the HP Indigo digital press on cardstock. The polyester piece was then adhered to the front of the cardstock.

Everyone at GMN was pleased with the final look of this year’s Christmas card. We were very excited to see so many of our unique capabilities represented on a Christmas card.

The question is often asked which process is better for producing roll labels - traditional flexo (analog) or digital printing. The answer is not easy, as there are so many variables that can make one process more effective than the other.

I don't like to think of them as competing processes, but rather complimentary processes. As digital continues to improve through innovations by companies like HP, the gap between digital and traditional analog print technologies like flexo will continue to shrink. Here is a quick list of each processes strengths and how GMN utilizes these to provide the most effective solutions to our customers problems:

Flexo printing - Exact color match capabilities, faster run speeds, all printing and finishing work done inline, capable of fabricating a variety of flexible and rigid substrates.

Digital printing - Beautiful four color process, low setup times, can do fixed and variable data printing simultaneously, tremendous flexibility of design.

Leveraging the complimentary strengths of each process allows GM Nameplate to better meet the dynamic needs of our customers.

While we all have a tendency to want to compare one thing to another, in the case of digital and flexo printing technology the current thinking is that we must look at them as unique tools that are critical to providing more effective solutions, allowing us to continually innovate, and finally better servicing the needs of our clients.
