Challenge:

Design and manufacture a new-to-market product with a progressive look. Print, form and fabricate three-dimensional parts with very fine graphics, tight registers and perfectly matched color.

Solution:

Design assistance to ensure manufacturability AND innovative design. Strict in-process controls to maintain quality through-out the manufacturing process, produce and fabricate parts in a set to control color on all pieces.

M&Ms

Components:

One-cavity injection mold IMD inlay.

Application:

Point of purchase vending machine.

Challenge:

Supply a durable part to withstand surface scratching in a retail environment.

Solution:

GM Nameplate worked closely with this customer to understand the expected hazards of the retail environment where this product would be placed. Our engineers discussed several possible solutions, deciding that producing this project as an In-Mold Decorated part would best meet the customer’s requirements.

Hyperion

Components:

Molded lens applied to molded back plate.

Application:

HyperionTM LTK System (ophthalmologic laser system).

Challenge:

Choosing and achieving the aesthetic look that best fit the product and its desired positioning in the marketplace. Engineering the part for manufacturing without sacrificing the design ideals.

Solution:

GM Nameplate’s broad range of capabilities made it an obvious choice for this component. We supplied Sunrise Technologies with a wide range of samples and helped them piece together the right processes to achieve the finished product. Once a direction was decided on, GM Nameplate’s engineering team provided step by step support to ensure the manufacturability and quality of the product.

Inogen

Components:

Membrane switch with Duraswitch Thincoder rotor.

Application:

Inogen One Oxygen Concentrator.

Challenge:

Inogen needed this product to go on the fast track. The design review, quoting and prototype process had to be compressed to six weeks.

Solution:

GM Nameplate design engineers worked a few long days to review Inogen's design and provide an accurate quote in less than three days. Prototype parts were produced in 5 weeks.

Allen Bradley 1

Components:

Complete value-added assembly including injection molded housing, relegendable membrane keypad, touch screen and shielding.

Application:

Allen Bradley PanelView Products.

Challenge:

Allen Bradley needed a supplier who could work in tandem with their own operations, supplying product on an as needed basis. The PanelView family of products must also withstand temperatures from +80°C down to -45°C, include a NEMA 4 seal and be durable enough to resist damage from a wide range of hazards inherent to industrial environments.

Solution:

Schedules are set up to a year in advance to meet Allen Bradley’s forecasted demand with weekly adjustments to production. GM Nameplate’s manufacturing capabilities & engineering assistance guarantee the product stands up to the rugged industrial environment.

Storm

Components:

Membrane, deadfront overlay.

Application:

Battery for high-end audio system.

Challenge:

The battery was made from a proprietary material and the customer could not find a supplier who could provide membranes that would adhere to the material.

Solution:

GM Nameplate’s customer service and engineering teams researched and tested multiple adhesives. Through their efforts and GM Nameplate’s relationships with key suppliers, an adhesive solution was devised within a few weeks. The batteries were assembled with the membranes without any adhesion quality issues.
