Miniature Precision Components (MPC), a Tier 1 Automotive supplier specializing in molded components under the hood of an automobile, was searching for a U.S. based nameplate manufacturer after Nissan decided to move production of the Altima vehicle from Japan back to the states.
MPC’s decision to move this business to GMN was due to high cost-savings. Localization of the product and switching from an injection-molded, electro-chrome plating to an aluminum, bright-dipped and anodized part proved major cost-savings for the customer.
The part is produced out of our Monroe, NC plant. The part is bright dipped and anodized to create a beautiful mirror chrome finish, as well as provide the needed durability for an under-hood component. Final production step includes pad printing that lays down the copy “NISSAN” into the recessed areas of the emblem. The ink withstands the rigors of an under-hood environment, passing the required salt-spray and thermal cycle testing.
As a result of expert resources and capabilities, and a successful start for this program, Nissan Purchasing has given the green light to other Tier 1 molders to utilize the same tooling and purchase these emblems from GMN.
