Wesco Sales and GM Nameplate created a label program with Philips Oral Healthcare on what could be done to create decorative solutions for their Sonicare Pediatric electric toothbrushes. The goal was an interchangeable decorative plastic panel that would allow kids to have eye-catching designs on their toothbrush.
While we were faced with many customers whose businesses had experienced significant declines, directly impacting their spending with GM Nameplate, the sales force continued to look for new opportunities for GM Nameplate to bring their label and application expertise to the table. Creating value in a challenging economic environment is an important factor in generating new channels of revenue to help offset some of the sales declines with our traditional base of customers.
It was this approach of providing value that ultimately led to Wesco Sales and GM Nameplate collaborating to create a label program for Philips Oral Healthcare. The opportunity was brought to GM Nameplate by Bob Monks of Wesco Sales Group. The customer sought ideas from the Wesco/GM Nameplate team on what could be done to create decorative solutions for their Sonicare Pediatric electric toothbrushes. The goal was an interchangeable decorative plastic panel that would allow kids to have eye-catching designs on their toothbrush. Through a process of prototyping and cost analysis it was determined that a decorative label and specially created double-coated removable adhesive would be the ideal solution for Philips. It was up to the GM Nameplate San Jose team to help Philips get from concept to conclusion.
Managing the constraints of a target price, with high cosmetic requirements and materials that performed in both clean removability for the adhesive and conformability for the decorative label set the bar high. Beginning in January 2009, GM Nameplate San Jose began producing samples for print, performance, and biocompatibility testing.
The exciting part of this success is that Philips believes this is just the beginning for this program. Gerry Gallagher has been spearheading a team of individuals from both Seattle and San Jose to insure that we stay at the forefront of this program as it evolves and grows. It was the collaborative efforts of our sales force and the many expert resources at our manufacturing plants that helped to provide successes like Philips.
