TAC, a 1st tier supplier to Toyota, was tasked with locating domestic manufacturers to supply components for cars and trucks. They found our Elite Plastics division at the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE) show.
TAC was interested in a number of Elite’s technologies (spray painting metallic paint; laser etching on injection and compression molded plastic and elastomer; and other plastic decorating capabilities) for the creation of a gear shift indicator (also known as a PRNDL).
Elite’s ability to perform all of these processes under one roof and maintain strict quality and cost controls matched TAC’s requirements for a domestic manufacturer.
Clear thermoplastic resin is injection molded and then screen printed with multiple colors. The part is then spray painted and laser etched. Our Elite Plastics facility can process approximately 370 parts per hour.
GM Nameplate has since made other parts using this same process and we have started a new project with TAC for the RAV 4.
