Whistles for Life (WFL), a Washington State manufacturer of high performance safety whistles, initially came to GM Nameplate looking for a local vendor to produce a higher quality domed label than was currently produced in China. Partnering with GMN, we were able to leverage this opportunity to not only provide a superior label, but a one-stop shop to produce multiple components.
One-Stop, Solutions Provider
Originally, GMN only produced the domed labels; WFL then needed a new molding tool. Bruce Wold, Engineering Mgr. at Elite Plastics, was instrumental in the complete redesign of the injection molded tooling. Today, Elite Plastics molds and welds the whistles in over 12 different colors.
This part is produced entirely in-house by engaging three of GMN’s US facilities. GMN Seattle produces the image printing and lamination and is then sent to the North Carolina facility where it is die-cut and domed.
The whistle is completely customizable from the color of plastic mold to the nameplate’s logo design. The domed labels and plastic whistles are then sent to the final assembler where all of the components and packaging are assembled.
The success of this program is directly tied to the coordination between GMN and WFL, and by leveraging our capabilities and resources to produce this time-sensitive product and bring all components together quickly.
About Whistles for Life
WFL is a safety tool designed to be heard for up to two miles away with minimal air flow. A short blast on this whistle gives up to 120 dB (a jet engine puts out around 160 dB). It’s main purpose is for personal safety, and is additionally used in the armed forces, for boating safety, and in search and rescue.
