DEAD FRONT IMAGES

Deadfront areas are useful when you have text or images you only want visible under a particular set of circumstances, such as when a button is pushed or a machine is running thereby attracting the attention of the user. These areas are built into your overlay and always there, yet visible only when backlit.

The color for a selected portion of the overlay is thinned 50% so it is nearly transparent

This portion retains enough pigment to appear to have the same solid color as the rest of the overlay

When backlit, this portion turns transparent and words or icons become visible

Certain indicators (i.e. Engine Overheating) should remain invisible until actually needed for ease of use

Background colors or areas surrounding deadfronts should be dark and preferably black since a light background obviously defeats the purpose of the deadfront since it cannot blend with the background and become visible only when backlit.
