X-Y Matrix Touch Screens

Resistive X-Y matrix touch screens operate by decoding or measuring a direct resistive circuit. This is done with four layers: a top polyester flex layer (coated with a thin conductive film), an adhesive spacer, a glass layer (coated with a thin conductive film) and an adhesive layer on the backside of the glass for mounting.

FACTS ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Projected actuation life:
1 million actuations

Activation points determined by intersecting etched rows and columns

Typical border widths at least .25"

No false actuations

4096 x 4096 touch points

No stylus needed - will operate when actuated with gloved finger

Easily adapted to various sizes and display configurations

Able to be sealed to NEMA 4 and IP65 specifications

Easy to clean
Finite number of touch points

Maximum transmissivity of 80%

May require periodic calibration

Subject to mechanical wear, top layer may be scratched or cut

Glass layer may break
