Nike

When GM Nameplate started working with Nike on this project, we were told it would be released for the spring product launch. The catch: the spring product launch was in 3 weeks!

The Nike SDM Triax Speed Sensor, a pedometer-like device that measures a runner's distance and speed, is connected to a watch via a digital RF link. While Nike planned to move full scale production offshore within a year, the technology was new to the fitness market and Nike wanted to make sure its product was first on the scene.

GM Nameplate provided the manufacturing solution to make this quick turn possible. GM Nameplate took ownership of the entire process in order to meet the spring launch deadline. We started with the injection molded and decorated pod, assembling all the internal and external components including labels, LEDs and gaskets battery. The pods were then fully assembled with the battery, married to and packaged with the watches and shipped by GM Nameplate directly to Nike's distributors in time for the launch.

GM Nameplate also kept detailed documentation of the serial numbers indicating which watches and pods were packaged together. GM Nameplate later began sourcing all the components including the watches, circuit boards and final packaging from sources in Asia, Canada and the United States, providing Nike with a complete turnkey solution which consumed very little of its resources. The ease of management of GM Nameplate's solution made it possible to keep production in the United States for a year longer than expected.
